Video Shows Colorado Deputy's Quick Reaction

As Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Brad Proulx came back around the vehicle, the suspect later identified as 25-year old Deyon Marcus Rivas-Maestas exited the SUV and swung a rifle toward his face.

Body camera was released Wednesday from a shooting involving a Douglas County, Colorado Sheriff's deputy who initially thought he was stopping to help a disabled motorist.

The video shows Deputy Brad Proulx park behind an SUV on County Line Road, just east of Santa Fe Drive Friday night, and walk up first to the passenger side and then back around to the driver's side, according to KMGH-TV.

As Proulx came back around the vehicle, the suspect later identified as 25-year old Deyon Marcus Rivas-Maestas exited the SUV and swung a rifle toward his face.

The surprised deputy yelled, pulled out his duty weapon and fired twice at the suspect, striking him once in the arm.

He then radioed, "Shots fired, shots fired," and commanded the suspect to get on the ground.

Douglas County Chief Deputy Steve Johnson told the news station that he was impressed by the deputy's actions.

"It's nothing short of amazing, his reaction time, the defense of himself and the defense of the community from this individual and whatever this individual had in mind."

Rivas-Maestas is being held on $50,000 bond in the Douglas County Jail, for investigation of First Degree Assault on a Peace Officer.
