Colorado Officer Wounded, Suspect Shot Dead

A Westminster officer was shot and wounded and the suspect was killed during a standoff Tuesday.

A police officer in Westminster, Colorado was shot and wounded during a standoff Tuesday night.

The incident began after police located a suspect wanted on multiple arrest warrants at a house in the 1300 block of 135th Drive around 5:20 p.m., according to KMGH-TV.

Officials said the man barricaded himself in the home and that other people inside were able to get out safety.

The standoff lasted for several hours as a SWAT team attempted to get the suspect to surrender peacefully. When negotiations failed, police entered the home and a shootout occured.

The wounded officer, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment, sustained non-life-threatening injuries while the suspect was pronounced dead on the scene.

A K-9 suffered minor injuries after being cut by glass and was transported to an emergency veterinarian for treatment.
