Mississippi Deputy Shot Twice; Suspect Dead

Lowndes County Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Forrester was shot twice in the leg during a shootout with a suspect Monday morning.

A Lowndes County, Mississippi Sheriff's deputy who was wounded in a shootout with a suspect Monday morning.

Deputy Kevin Forrester was shot twice in the leg around 10:30 a.m. on Highway 82 near the Alabama state line, according to The Dispatch.

The deputy was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with non life-threatening injuries. Chief Deputy Marc Miley told the newspaper that the deputy is in stable condition and doing well.

The suspect, identified as Pryor Spencer Bailey IV, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Bailey led officers from at least four different law enforcement agencies on a pursuit that began in Webster County after a deputy attempted to pull him over on suspicion of DUI and ended when he drove over spike strips and crashed in Lowndes County.

The suspect and responding officers then exchanged gunfire.

Authorities at first believed they were chasing two suspects, but there was only one in the vehicle.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the incident.
