Oklahoma Deputy Dies Following Crash

Craig County Sheriff's Deputy Sean Cookson was heading to mandatory training on Feb. 22 when a Chevy Silverado driven by his wife was involved in a wreck with three other vehicles.

A deputy with the Craig County Sheriff's Office in Oklahma succumbed to injuries Monday night sustained in a crash earlier this month.

Deputy Sean Cookson was heading to mandatory training on Feb. 22 when a Chevy Silverado driven by his wife was involved in a wreck with three other vehicles on Highway 82 about six miles north of Tahlequah, according to NewOn6.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said that it was foggy when the pickup truck rear-ended a car that was waiting to make a left turn befor colliding collided with a Chevy Tahoe head on.

The 23-year-old deputy was flown to a Tulsa hospital and was surrounded by fellow law enforcement officers, his wife and family members.

A procession of patrol cars escorted Cookson's body from St. John Medical Center to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Tulsa.

The other people involved in the crash sustained only minor injuries.

A memorial fund has been set up in Cookson’s name at the First National Bank of Vinita.
