A Connecticut State Police trooper had to be extricated after a drunk driver drove his vehicle onto his patrol car Thursday night.
Trooper Patrick Dwyer was overseeing a construction zone on Maple Street near the I-91 interchange around 11:11 p.m when a Jeep, driven by 43-year-old Michael Gauvin, rode up onto the cruiser, according to WTNH-TV.
Officials said that Dwyer was driving over a cement barrier when his vehicle went onto the cruiser that was stationary with its lights on, monitoring a construction zone.
Dwyer was inside and entrapped, but was successfully extricated.
Both men were transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Gauvin was released and arrested and charged with DUI and failure to maintain proper lane.
