Orange Mayor Dwayne Warren made the move on Friday to replace the department's former acting head with his brother, Deputy Police Director Todd Warren.

The mayor of Orange, New Jersey has appointed his brother as the city's acting police director following a string of shootings this summer.

Mayor Dwayne Warren made the move on Friday to replace the department's former acting head, John Wade, with Deputy Police Director Todd Warren, according to NJ.com.

The mayor said his brother would be tasked with implementing a strategic plan and to strengthen the partnership between police and residents.

"As Mayor, my primary responsibility to the families of Orange Township is their safety and well being," Warren said in a statement.

He pointed to his brother's law enforcement experience -- including positions with the family court system, correctional institutions, gang intervention programs and investigations.
