FLYOD, New York -- Three people have been arrested in the explosion that critically injured a New York corrections officer on May 29.
Marcy Corrections Officer Alan Dobransky sustained burns to his arms and chest after a packaged cardboard box left at his home near his mailbox in Floyd exploded, according to The Post-Standard.
Cindy L. Shields, Keith Seppi and Donna J. Seppi were each charged with first-degree assault after searches of their residences revealed items linking them to the bombing.
Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol told reporters Wednesday that the attack was not related to Dobransky's job as a corrections officer and was instead related to an elder care scam that the officer had uncovered against his mother in Ohio
Dobransky had discovered that Shields, who was taking care of his mother, had taken money from her more than four years. When he threatened to tell the police, the three decided to stop him with a bomb, Maciol said.
Dobransky was burned over 50 percent of his body and remains in critical condition at Upstate University Hospital.
