A mother and son were both recently sworn in as the newest members of the Flint Police Department.
Maria and Dion Reed both graduated from the Mott Community College Law Enforcement Regional Training Academy and will begin their law enforcement careers this week, according to WJRT-TV.
After college, Dion returned home to attend the police academy. The kicker was that his mother would be joining him.
"They make a lot a jokes, like the only reason I'm at the academy is because she can't find a babysitter," Dion said about ribbing from other recruits.
Maria starts this Sunday on Mother's Day, but she said she has to seperate her pernonal life from her profesional one. "I can't be a mom when I am out there doing my job," she told the news station.
Both say they're prepared to protect and serve no matter what.
"I might have to put my personal feelings aside," Dion said. "We both signed up for this, we still have a job to finish."
