A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Metrobus after it was hijacked in Northeast Washington Tuesday morning.
A suspect was taken into custody by police after the bus stopped at a gas station, according to The Washington Post.
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the suspect was "violent and resistant" and that the entire incident lasted less than three minutes.
The bus driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and there were no injuries to any of the passengers passengers.
D.C. Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told reporters that the man boarded the bus around 10:30 a.m. in the 3800 block of Jay Street Northeast and approached the driver. At the next stop, man attacked the driver as the passengers were able to exit out the back entrance.
The driver also able to get off the bus after it was hijacked.
Officials said the suspect then proceeded to drive the bus a short distance to the gas station parking lot, where it jumped two curbs before striking and killing the pedestrian.
