Utah Officer Delivers Own Baby in Cruiser

Unified Police Officer Travis Clark had his pregnant wife in his patrol car with lights and sirens activated -- but the baby just wouldn't wait.

An officer with the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake had his pregnant wife in his patrol car with lights and sirens activated -- but the baby just wouldn't wait.

Officer Travis Clark was rushing his wife, Paige, to Riverton Hospital when their infant daughter decided there was no time better than the present early Tuesday morning, according to The Deseret News.

Bexleigh Clark was delivered by her father inside the cruiser on the side of Redwood Road near 2100 North in Saratoga Springs at 3:28 a.m.

Paige had been experiencing on and off for several days when they started to suddenly accelerate. The couple left their home in Eagle Mountain and dropped their 2-year-old daughter off with relatives.

The hospital was less than 30 minutes away, but they soon realized they weren't going to make it.

Clark told dispatchers, "We're delivering a baby on Redwood Road" and called for an and requested an expedited paramedic response.

Minutes later, Clark announced, "We've got a baby girl born," and was greeted over the radio with congratulations from colleagues.

Clark wrap his wife and newborn daughter in blankets and tied off the baby's umbilical cord while the family waited for paramedics to arrive.
