A suspected drunk driver who struck and killed a Montgomery County, Maryland police officer working DUI enforcement late last year was indicted Thursday on a vehicular-manslaughter charge.
Luis Gustavo Reluzco faces to up to 10 years in prison if convicted in the death of of Officer Noah Leotta, according to The Washington Post.
Reluzco turned himself in to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Thursday afternoon and was taken to the county jail.
Friends and family members of the fallen 24-year-old -- who died one week after he was struck on Rockville Pike on Dec. 3 -- said that he an energetic and likable officer who was passionate about getting drunk drivers off the streets.
The case has launched efforts to toughen up laws and penalties for drunken driving in the state, spurring the introduction of a bill dubbed "Noah's Law" that would require wider use of breath-test de¬vices to prevent drivers from starting their cars if they have been drinking.
