Two Nebraska Officers Injured; Suspect Dead

Two Lincoln police officers were injured and a suspect was killed during an exchange of gunfire.

Two police officers in Lincoln, Nebraska were injured and a suspect was killed during an exchange of gunfire Sunday night.

The officers made contact with a man found to have a felony arrest warrant during a traffic stop on Adams Street about 9 p.m. when the suspect produced a firearm while being taken into custody, according to The Journal Star.

A male officer suffered a gunshot wound and a female officer was physically assaulted in front of 2931 North 73rd Street. One of the injured officers was taken to CHI St. Elizabeth and the other was taken to Bryan West for treatment. Both officers are expected to be OK.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene after the confrontation.

"It's still pretty early," Police Chief Jim Peschong told reporters. "We're really sorting through some things, trying to figure out what went on."

Officers surrounded a nearby home after the shooting and took five people into custody by 11 p.m. Police said they had found everyone they were looking for.

The incident is currently under investigation.
