Florida Police Officer Found Dead in Cruiser

A police officer in North Port, Florida died over the weekend after he was found unresponsive in his patrol vehicle.

Officer Dennis Gonthier was preparing to start his shift Saturday morning when he was discovered and was transported to a local hospital where efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, according to a department news release.

Preliminary information shows the 57-year-old officer died of natural causes.

Gonthier was a 14 year veteran with the North Port Police Department.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
