A Mason County, Washington Sheriff's deputy lost control of his patrol vehicle and crashed while responding to a call over the weekend.
Deputy Nathan Smith was en route to a possible burglary in progress Sunday morning when his SUV crashed the 17000 block of State Route 3, according to KOMO-TV.
The 38-year-old deputy suffered a serious cut on his head and was taken by ambulance to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton for treatment and was later released. The SUV was totaled in the wreck.
It was raining hard at the time of the crash and there were areas of standing water along the highway, according to the sheriff's office.
"(This) should be a warning to everyone during the downpours that all drivers need to be aware of standing water on the roadways; that even professionally trained drivers can fall victim to harsh weather hazards," Mason County Sheriff Casey Salisbury said in a statement.
The Washington State Patrol is currently investigating the crash.
