Police in Selma, Alabama arrested a suspect who allegedly opened fire in a church Sunday morning, wounding three people.

Authorities charged 26-year-old James Junior Minter with three counts of attempted murder in the shooting at the Oasis Tabernacle Church in East Selma that occurred during a service around 10:25 a.m., according to The Selma Times Journal.

Minter is accused of shooting his girlfriend, her newborn baby boy and Earl Carswell, the pastor of the church.

Selma Police Lt. Curtis Muhannad said Minter was sitting on the front row with his family when he started shooting. The woman suffered gunshot wounds to her jaw and shoulder, the infant was shot in the hand and the preacher was shot in the leg.

"He took a seat on the bench on the front row with his family, and then he just got into it, pulled a weapon and started shooting," Muhannad told the newspaper.

The pastor was able to grab the suspect as he was shot, and church members helped hold Minter down and disarmed him.

Minter eventually fled the scene, but was captured by officers less than a mile away.

The suspect's girlfriend, her child and the pastor were transported to a Birmingham hospital for treatment of injuries. All three victims were listed in stable condition.

The shooting is under investigation.
