A Greenville County, S.C. deputy shot and killed a dog that attacked and injured two women Tuesday morning.
Authorities responded to 3rd Avenue and C Street in the Poe Mill community around 8 a.m. after receiving to a report of a woman being attacked by a pit bull, according to The Greenville News
Master Deputy Jonathan Smith said a femaile deputy arrived on scene and saw a dog on a woman's arm, which was almost severed, and fired on the dog, killing it with one shot.
The deputy then began applying tourniquets to the woman's upper arm and leg, which also was injured during the attack and was able to control the bleeding until EMS arrived.
A second woman -- the dog's owner -- was attacked before the deputy arrived. Both women lived at the residence and were transported to a local hospital.
Smith said that the deputy undoubtedly saved the lives of the two women.
"She did what needed to be done to stop the attack and save the life of that lady," he said.
No charges will be filed against the dog's owner.
The Sheriff’s Office will conduct an internal investigation to ensure all policies and procedures were followed during the incident.
