Kentucky State Police Trooper Killed in Crash

Sgt. David Gibbs died in a two-vehicle wreck Friday after he lost control of his cruiser in the rain.

A Kentucky State Police trooper was killed in a two-vehicle wreck Friday morning.

Sgt. David Gibbs was traveling westbound Highway 210 near Buffalo when he lost control of his vehicle in a sharp, rain-soaked curve.

Officials said the 42-year-old trooper's 2010 Ford Crown Victoria cruiser traveled into the oncoming lane, where it was struck by a white Jeep, driven by 63-year-old Patrick Judd.

Gibbs was pronounced dead at the scene the Larue County Coroner's Office.

Judd was transported to the Harden Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and investigators say weather is considered a contributing factor.

Funeral arrangements for Gibbs are pending.
