A Salisbury, Md. police officer was seriously injured in a crash with a fleeing suspect early Tuesday morning.
Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Camden Avenue for a reported domestic dispute around 4:12 a.m. after officials say Michael Victor Rayne was involved in a verbal argument with his live-in girlfriend and allegedly broke a window of a neighbor's residence.
Rayne then got into a vehicle and sped away. Police stayed on the scene and did not pursue the suspect.
The 27-year-old then became involved in a vehicle collision with Officer Zachary Converse, who was responding to the scene. The impact of the crash caused the officer's cruiser to knock down a utility pole.
Salisbury EMS responded to the crash and transported the officer and suspect to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Due to the severity of injuries, both men were transferred to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
