Louisiana Police Officer Killed in Cruiser Crash

Jeanerette Officer Juandre Gilliam died in a crash during a high-speed chase late Tuesday night.

A Jeanerette, La. police officer died in a crash during a high-speed chase Tuesday night.

Officer Juandre Gilliam was pursuing a vehicle with two suspects in Iberia Parish on St. Peter Road around 10:30 p.m. when the crash occurred, according to KATC-TV.

Officials say that the 22-year-old officer notified dispatch he was making a traffic stop right before the chase began. Antre Terrel Joseph and an unnamed juvenile were being pursued.

Both suspects were arrested and questioned overnight and will soon be brought to the Iberia Parish Jail.

Gilliam was a member of the Jeanerette Police Department for two years and graduated from the academy last month.

Louisiana State Police are investigating the crash while the Iberia Parish Sheriff's office is handling the criminal investigation.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
