Ala. Lieutenant Dies During Extrication

Pell City Lt. Richard Woods suffered a fatal heart attack while trying to extract a victim Tuesday.

A Pell City, Ala. police officer died attempting to extract a victim from a vehicle involved in a wreck Tuesday afternoon.

Officials said that Lt. Richard Woods, 48, suffered a heart attack while assisting with the extrication, according to The Daily Home.

Woods, commander of the department's Special Operations Division, was transported to St. Vincent's St. Clair Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
