Kansas Motorcycle Officer Collapses, Dies

Olathe Police Officer Michael Kern was detailing his motorcycle for a Presidential escort.

An Olathe, Kan. motorcycle officer suffered a fatal heart attack on Jan. 30 while preparing for an upcoming escort of President Obama.

Officials said that Officer Michael Kern was detailing his motorcycle for the special assignment while on duty when he collapsed shortly before 5 p.m., according to a news release.

Kern was a member of the Olathe Police Department for more than 13 years and had previously served three years with the Cass County, Mo. Sheriff's Department.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and his son.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
