In New York City and Philadelphia Friday night, demonstrations took place in support of police officers.
In NYC, the pro-police rally outside City Hall organized by a Facebook group called "Thank You NYPD" grew to about 100 by 6 p.m. and was met by an opposing protest by critics of police, according to WCBS-TV.
The pro-police demonstrators said police officers are being unfairly maligned. The news station reported that neither police Commissioner Bill Bratton nor the local police unions endorsed the rally, citing concerns of violence.
In Philadelphia, hundreds of people rallied Friday night at a major intersection in the Northeast section of the city to show their support for the police, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The supporters gathered at the junction of Frankford, Cottman, and Ryan Avenues and loudly endorsed the city's police officers.
Some could be seen waving signs that read "Blue Lives Matter," a counter to the protest slogan of "Black Lives Matter" that following the deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and Eric Garner in Staten Island, N.Y.
Though the rally was noisy, no arrests were reported.
