Ga. Sheriff's Deputy Stabbed in the Neck

Towns County Deputy Deputy Aaron Deyton was stabbed in the neck by a suspect in Hiawsee.

A Towns County, Ga. Sheriff's deputy was stabbed in the neck by a suspect in downtown Hiawsee Wednesday morning.

Two deputies were called to assist after the Hiawsee Police Department made a traffic stop in the parking lot of Mull's Motel on North Main Street, according to AccessNorthGa.com.

Officials say that when the officer attempted to take 28-year-old Daniel Lee Bower into custody, he ran from them. The deputies then chased him to the parking lot of a nearby Hardee's restaurant.

A struggle ensued and Deputy Aaron Deyton was stabbed in the neck before being taken into custody. Officials did not say what weapon Bower used to attack him.

Deyton was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he underwent surgery and remained in stable condition Wednesday.

The incident is currently under investigation.
