Utah Deputy Hits SUV, Two Sent to Hospital

A Davis County deputy collided with an SUV while responding to a medical call Sunday evening.

SYRACUSE, Utah -- A Davis County deputy collided with an SUV while responding to a medical call Sunday evening, leaving the officer and a passenger of the other car hospitalized.

Injuries sustained by both parties were non life-threatening, according Syracuse Police spokeswoman Officer Erin Behm.

The collision occurred at the intersection of 700 South 3000 West in Syracuse, Behm said adding that the officer had his lights and sirens active when en-route.

The deputy was heading east on 700 South around 5:15 p.m. hit a black Dodge Durango traveling south on 3000 West, Behm said. The Durango landed on the lawn of a residential property, she told the Standard-Examiner. The area along 700 South is a two-way stop for east and west traffic.

The Davis County Sheriff's office deputy was transported to Davis Hospital and Medical Center for shoulder pain. The female passenger, believed to be in her 20s, was transported by ground to McKay-Dee Hospital.

The remaining occupants, a male driver and two children, ages 6 and 8, were not injured, Behm reported.

No citations have been issued at this time. The crash is under investigation.
