Fla. Deputy Pulls Man From Smoldering RV

A Volusia County man is recovering today after his recreational vehicle caught fire and a deputy pulled him to safety.

The fire was reported just before 10 a.m. today at Mosquito Lagoon RV Park on East Halifax Avenue in Oak Hill, a tiny community in southeast Volusia County.

Deputies arrived three minutes after the call, said Gary Davidson, a spokesman for the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy entered the recreational vehicle and pulled the man out of the smoldering RV, Davidson said.

"Deputies initiated CPR procedures on the man until paramedics arrived a short while later to take over," Davidson said in a report. "The victim was transported by ambulance to Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach."

His report doesn't name the victim or any of the deputies involved.

The cause is under investigation.

Volusia County Fire Services and the state Fire Marshal's Office are involved.
