An Anderson County sheriff's deputy was taken to the hospital and a man was shocked with a Taser during a physical fight in the Cheddar community Sunday afternoon.

Deputies were following up on a domestic violence report at a home on Bell Road shortly after noon, said Sgt. Jonathan Brown, a spokesman for the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy tried to arrest the man, and they began fighting, Brown said. The deputy used a Taser, possibly several times, Brown said.

The deputy and the man were taken in separate ambulances to AnMed Health Medical Center, where they were treated for minor injuries, Brown said. They remained in the hospital late Sunday afternoon, he said.

Brown could not say in what ways the deputy and the man were injured, but he said the deputy received X-rays to check for broken bones. He said it is common for deputies to be taken to the hospital for injuries that cannot be treated by emergency medical services personnel at the scene of the incident.

"My deputy is fine, short of the common war wounds typical of any altercation," Brown said.

When the man involved in the fight is released from the hospital, he will be charged with high and aggravated criminal domestic violence, resisting arrest and assault on a law enforcement officer, Brown said. He will be taken to the Anderson County Detention Center, Brown said.

Sheriff's officials do not plan to identify the deputy involved, Brown said. They will identify the other man after he is charged, Brown said.
