Man Convicted in Death of Ariz. Police Officer

Bryan Wayne Hulsey fatally shot Glendale Police Officer Anthony Holly during a 2007 traffic stop.

A man was convicted Monday in the slaying of a Glendale, Ariz. police officer during a 2007 traffic stop.

A jury found Bryan Wayne Hulsey guilty of first degree murder in the death of Officer Anthony Holly, according to KNXV-TV.

Hulsey, who was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over for speeding and not having a license plate, was also convicted of attempted first degree murder of Officer David Goitia.

Prosecutors told jurors that Hulsey exited the vehicle and said "I got something for you," before firing two shot, one of which killed Holly.

Hulsey's attorneys denied he killed the 24-year-old officer and suggested that Holly was unintentionally shot by a fellow officer who pulled over the vehicle.

Jan Blaser-Upchurch, the president of the Arizona chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors, was in court to support Officer Holly’s family and was shocked by comments made by Hulsey's family following the verdict.

"It's disturbing. It's always difficult when you see the defendant's family react in a negative way. All of the families are in a difficult place," she said.

Maricopa County prosecutor Juan Martinez will argue for the death penalty beginning on Tuesday.
