A Fresno County Sheriff's Office deputy was injured during a struggle with a suspect who was trying to burglarize a west Fresno home on Friday.
The suspect, Matthew Adam Lopez, 19, of Sanger was arrested and booked into Fresno County Jail. The deputy, who wasn't named, was cut in the face and was treated and released from the hospital.
The sheriff's office said that shortly before 2:30 p.m Friday, deputies responded to a possible burglary occurring at a home on the 4500 block of West Olive Avenue. The caller told 911 she could hear someone trying to break through a side door.
The first arriving deputy confronted Lopez, who was still trying to break in. After refusing to heed the deputy's commands, a fight ensued. Rolling on the ground, the deputy was able to pin Lopez until more deputies arrived to help.
Lopez was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, battery on a peace officer, attempting to remove a gun from a peace officer, resisting arrest and possessing burglary tools. He was treated at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for injuries before he was booked into Fresno County Jail.
