Here are some of the stories you may have missed that ran on our site this week:

Weekend (June 13-15)

Two fallen Las Vegas Metropolitan police officers killed in the line of duty were honored at separate funerals held three days apart.

Officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo were both fatally shot during an ambush on June 8.

A Walker County, Ga. Sheriff's Office K-9 was shot and killed Friday while trying to serve a warrant.

Officials say that Steven Lee Waldemer killed K-9 Tanja and its handler, Deputy Donnie Brown, sustained superficial wounds in the confrontation.

A Riverside County, Calif. Sheriff's K-9 is recovering after being accidentally shot in the paw by a deputy Friday.

K-9 Tessa was with her handler searching for a suspect when a pit bull jumped out a home's open window and attacked her. Another deputy fatally shot the attacking dog, but also wounded the K-9 in the process.

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation into law Sunday banning police departments from assigning ticket quotas and evaluating officers based on how many citations they issue.

Quinn said the new law will allow police to use their judgment in deciding whether to ticket a driver.

Monday (June 16)

An off-duty Woodbridge, N.J. police dispatcher rescued two neighbors from a house.

Dispatcher Eric Senialkevgch was driving to work when he spotted the blaze at the two-story, split-level home and rushed in, pulling out two people who had been trapped inside.

Two Dallas County, Texas Sheriff's deputies recently had a close call after one was nearly struck by a suspected drunken driver and the incident was captured on dashcam video.

Sgt. Roy Wallace and Deputy Mayo Loza were dealing with a man who fell asleep at the wheel at a dead stop while still in drive in the fast line of a highway when a speeding driver almost hit Loza.

A 2012 Supreme Court decision has caused more confusion than clarity on how police may track the whereabouts of criminal suspects.

Justices unanimously affirmed a lower court ruling that police erred when they attached a GPS tracking device to the Jeep of a nightclub owner. In three separate opinions, the justices offered different legal rationales for that decision.

Tuesday (June 17)

A City of Middletown, N.Y. police dog died after collapsing during training.

K-9 Axe and his handler, Officer Michael McDonald, had just completed training at the Orange County Sheriff's Office K-9 Training Center when Axe passed out and went into cardiac arrest.

A drug suspect who escaped custody and struck an NYPD officer with a stolen vehicle in Queens was arrested by police.

Officials say that Bryan McMenamin somehow fled with his hands cuffed behind his back and jumped into a vehicle before striking a narcotics officer who tried to stop him.

A federal court in Pennsylvania ruled that people who hijack their neighbors' WiFi to commit crimes on the Internet shouldn't expect their deeds to stay hidden.

A three-judge panel of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that police didn't need a warrant because the man deliberately projected his criminal conduct outside of his home via the wireless Internet connection.

Pittsburgh is wired for battle in the war against cybercrime and has become the arsenal of cybersecurity.

In the last month, the FBI Pittsburgh's cybersquad has taken down the Gameover Zeus computer theft network, crippled the Cryptolocker data ransom scheme and indicted the Russian accused of being their puppet master.

Wednesday (June 18)

One of the five men accused in the killing of a U.S. Border Patrol agent has been extradited to the United States.

Jesus Leonel Sanchez-Meza, also known as Lionel Portillo-Meza, was arraigned in federal court in Tucson in the slaying of Agent Brian Terry on Dec. 14, 2010.

A dashcam video shows a Stuart, Fla. officer being attacked by three dogs during a traffic stop.

Officer Joe Calderone pulled a woman over for speeding and had a hard time hearing what she was saying. The woman got out of her vehicle and the dogs pushed past her, attacking the officer.

A Bastrop County grand jury has indicted a sheriff's deputy on a murder charge four months after he fatally shot a woman on the porch of a home.

Deputy Daniel Willis responded to a disturbance around 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 16 at a residence when he shot Yvette Smith.

Thursday (June 19)

The police chief of the Little River-Academy, Texas Police Department was gunned down by a suspect.

Police Chief Lee Dixon was killed while responding the scene of a disturbance at a home after a person came to the police department to report a disturbance.

The city of Cornelius, Ore. is preparing to dissolve its police department and is selling off its firearms are part of that process.

Starting July 1, the Cornelius Police Department will be dissolved and the city will begin contracting for police services with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

A pilot program to equip New Jersey's police and first responders with a drug that can reverse the effects of a heroin overdose will be expanded statewide.

The program, which began this year, trains police and emergency medical technicians to administer Narcan to overdose victims and equips them with the drug.

Friday (June 20)

The U.S. Border Patrol has been overwhelmed by a surge in detained minors entering the country illegally from Central America.

President Barack Obama called the more than 47,000 unaccompanied children who have entered the country illegally this budget year an "urgent humanitarian situation."

Experts say that federal inquiries of police-involved incidents rarely yield criminal charges.

Nationwide, only about 20 civil rights lawsuits yielded criminal charges against officers each year and convictions are even less common.
