Rapid Expansion of Smart911 Continues

Public Safety Answering Points in 37 States Have Now Adopted Proven Solution for Delivering Life Saving Additional Data on 9-1-1 Calls

FRAMINGHAM, Mass., June 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Rave Mobile Safety (Rave), the trusted partner for campus and public safety, today announced the continued rapid national expansion of Smart911, the acclaimed public safety service that brings added protection to citizens by enabling emergency responders to arrive at the right location more quickly and with the right resources. Smart911 has recently been deployed in six additional states (La., Okla., Utah, Ohio, Iowa, Alaska) – and by public safety answering points (PSAPs) serving 100s of communities – bringing the total number of communities benefiting from the service to more than 1,000.

Public safety officials across the U.S. are embracing Smart911 for the assistance it provides to both citizens and emergency responders. According to Prosper Texas Interim Police Chief, Doug Kowalski: "The new Smart911 service will allow Prosper residents the ability to create a personal Safety Profile online and attach that Safety Profile to all of their phone numbers. So, when they call 9-1-1 to report an emergency, the Communications Officers will immediately be able to read the Safety Profile and relay pertinent information to the responding officers, firefighters or paramedics. The system can most definitely be a life-saver."

Sheriff David Israel of Kalkaska County, Mich., noted: "Smart911 is a great step forward in emergency response. When you dial 9-1-1, you are not having your best day, and even the simplest of details can be difficult to communicate in a time of panic. Now we can approach the scene of an emergency more safely, as well as provide faster and more precise response." Fire Chief Derek Hogerheide of Kalkaska Township Fire Department Station No. 7 added: "Having the information that is available through a Safety Profile can greatly affect the way we respond to an emergency. If we know exactly where we are going and who we are looking for in a house fire or at the scene of a vehicle accident, those details can help us assess and then respond to those citizens more efficiently."

Smart911 allows citizens to create a Safety Profile for their household that includes any information they want 9-1-1 and response teams to have in the event of an emergency. When a citizen makes an emergency call, their Safety Profile is automatically displayed to the 9-1-1 call-taker. The technology is quickly deployed and operates on nearly all PSAP technology combinations. From saving lives during medical emergencies to thwarting home invasions to rescuing stranded motorists, Smart911 has been credited with bringing greater assistance to citizens and averting tragedy.

"The continued expansion of Smart911 is a credit to public safety officials and civic leaders whose wish is to provide the best protection possible to their citizens," said Tom Axbey, CEO of Rave Mobile Safety. "We are particularly encouraged at the enthusiasm emergency responders have for this system and the many instances in which Smart911 has enabled them to improve their response to emergency calls and help save lives."
