Two police officers responding to a South Side call were hurt when their SUV rolled over after being struck a car Sunday night, police said.

The crash happened about 10:45 p.m. in the intersection of East 89th Street and South Jeffery Boulevard, police said.

The Chicago Police Department SUV was responding to an in-progress call with emergency equipment activated when a westbound car struck it, pushing the SUV into another vehicle and then onto its side.

Both officers were treated at local hospitals for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the car that struck the SUV fled the scene on foot but was taken into custody. Charges are pending.
