Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by N.M. Deputy

A pedestrian struck by an on-duty Dona Ana County Sheriffs Office deputy has died at a local hospital.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- A pedestrian struck by an on-duty Dona Ana County Sheriffs Office deputy has died at a local hospital, according to DASO spokeswoman Kelly Jameson.

A deputy was responding to a call in Mesquite, near the intersection of NM 192 and Sequoia, near Mesquite Elementary School, around 8 p.m. Tuesday, she said.

The pedestrian was struck by the deputy and transported to Memorial Medical where and later declared dead.

The New Mexico State Police and other law enforcement agencies are assisting in the investigation. The names of the deputy and the pedestrian have not yet been released.
