A man suspected of shooting a Maquoketa, Iowa police sergeant was found dead in an overturned pickup early Tuesday morning.
Aaron Edward Scott was discovered in the vehicle on 150th Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m. by Clinton County Sheriff deputies and Iowa State Patrol troopers following a high-speed pursuit, according to The Quad-City Times.
The name of the wounded sergeant, who was shot once in the upper arm, has not been released.
The sergeant was transported to Jackson County Regional Health Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials said that the officer stopped to investigate a blue 2005 Dodge Ram pickup parked on the side of the street in the 200 block of West Grove at 2:51 a.m. when Scott exited the vehicle with a high-powered rifle and shot at the sergeant.
The 13-year veteran of the force returned fire, but it's unknown if Scott was hit.
The sergeant's cruiser also was hit, damaging some mechanical components, including the in-car camera.
The incident is currently under investigation.
