MORGAN HILL, Calif. -- A man who officers said rammed his car into two Santa Clara County sheriff's patrol cars was arrested Saturday after a massive search in an unincorporated area near Morgan Hill.
The incident began at 5:30 a.m. when a resident in the 6600 block of Croy Road complained of a suspicious car in his driveway, according to the sheriff's department.
When deputies arrived in three patrol cars, the suspect sped down the driveway, ramming his car into two of the vehicles.
A deputy fired one shot as the car sped away. About a quarter of a mile down the road, the suspect's car spun out of control and crashed into a ravine.
The suspect fled on foot, and a search for him was begun by the sheriff's emergency response team, with reinforcements from San Jose, Morgan Hill, Gilroy and Sunnyvale police officers.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was arrested shortly after noon.
During the search, residents were advised to stay in their homes with their doors locked.
The incident remains under investigation, and it is not known why the suspect was parked in the driveway.
An earlier report that there were two suspects was erroneous, said Sgt. Andrea Urena.
