Police officers opened fire on a man they say tried to run over officers with his vehicle early Monday in downtown Orlando, authorities said.

Derrick Lattimore was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and is facing other charges after he tried to flee from police at the City View Apartments in the 500 block of West Church Street.

Police say they were looking for the 27-year-old in connection with a domestic violence incident involving a firearm, according to Sgt. Jim Young, a police spokesman.

The melee began about 1:20 a.m. when officers received a call about a disturbance in the area of Church Street and South Terry Avenue.

They were told Lattimore could be at the West Church Street apartment complex and located him in the parking garage.

When Lattimore tried to strike police with his vehicle, three officers fired their guns.

The suspect was not hit nor were any officers injured.

Officers took Lattimore into custody moments later.

Court records show the mother of Lattimore's children took out an injunction against him in 2012. The order is set to expire next week.

However, it is not yet known whether she was the victim in the Monday assault.

This is the second time in just three days that Orange County law enforcement have discharged their firearms while pursuing a suspect.

A suspected robber is still on the run after a Saturday stick-up at a CVS Pharmacy on West Colonial Drive.

Deputies encountered the man and when he pulled out a gun, they fired. The man, however, escaped after he scaled a wall into a nearby apartment complex.

It is unclear whether the suspected robber was wounded.
