Kitsap County sheriff's deputies found Daniel D. Travatte hiding under a blanket in a dog kennel at the Cedar Creek Animal Clinic.

Daniel D. Travatte was charged Friday with first-degree burglary and third-degree assault, along with firearm charges, after Kitsap County sheriff's deputies found him hiding under a blanket in a dog kennel at the Cedar Creek Animal Clinic, 2950 SE Mile Hill Drive, according to court documents.

Deputies allege that Travatte was armed with a semi-automatic pistol and wearing a ski mask. It took five deputies to handcuff the 5-foot-6-inch, 125-pound man. Although no deputies were injured in the struggle, Travatte sustained facial injuries from deputies attempting to subdue him, causing him to bleed. Travatte is HIV positive, according to documents, and deputies had some of his blood on their clothes and hands.

During the struggle, Travatte said, "Just shoot me, that would be better," according to the documents.

In 2003, Travatte pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery and other crimes for using a gun to hold up an East Bremerton pharmacy. The pharmacist and his daughter subdued Travatte by hitting him repeatedly with a baseball bat. Travatte was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was released in June 2010.
