A 24-year-old man was killed in the Roseland neighborhood and at least four other people have been shot since Sunday morning on the South and Northwest sides, authorities said.

The fatal shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. in the 11100 block of South Vernon Avenue, police said.

Officers in the area heard shots fired and found the 24-year-old man lying unresponsive in a vacant lot, Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

The man, who was shot multiple times, was pronounced dead at Roseland Community Hospital.

The shooting was the second of the day in Roseland, which is on the South Side. About 12:30 p.m., an 18-year-old man was hurt in a drive-by shooting near the intersection of West 111th Street and South Parnell Avenue, police said.

The man was walking down the sidewalk when a white Toyota Camry pulled up and a passenger started shooting, Alfaro said.

The 18-year-old was struck multiple times and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.

In the most recent shooting, about 12:10 a.m. a 24-year-old man was shot inside a convenience store in the 2600 block of East 79th Street, Alfaro said.

The man was shot by a gunman who had walked inside with a female and fired shots, police said. He was struck in twice in the thighs and once in the abdomen and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

The shooter and his companion fled the scene after the shooting, police said.

Earlier, about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were shot while walking in the 1700 block of North Campbell Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood.

The boy was struck in the lower calf and taken in good condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said. The man was shot in the forearm and leg and listed in serious condition at Stroger.

Police said a light-colored sedan was seen fleeing the scene.

No suspects were in custody in the shootings. Detectives are investigating.
