Two men found human bones while going through items in a storage unit they had bought in Corbin, according to police.
Police are investigating whether the bones could be those of a woman missing since 1997 in Delaware.
The two men had bought the contents of a storage locker after the previous renter stopped paying. They were going through it about 4 p.m. Thursday when they found three grocery-style bags that contained bones, said detective Rusty Hedrick of the Corbin Police Department.
Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley confirmed that the bones were human, Hedrick said.
Authorities assume that the bones are those of only one person, he said.
Hedrick said the man who had rented the unit had a wife who was reported missing in 1997 in Delaware.
The man later lived in Corbin, but he moved away in 2004. He continued paying rent on the locker until earlier this year, Hedrick said.
The man, whose name police did not release, died in May in Alabama, Hedrick said.
The coroner's office sent the bones to the state medical examiner's office for analysis.
