MANATEE, Fla. -- A 30-year-old theft suspect was arrested after leading deputies on a foot chase early Monday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Eric Moen was taken into custody only after a deputy shot him with a stun gun, according to the report.

About 12:40 a.m., deputies went to the 7-Eleven store at 6886 15th St. E. after learning that Moen, who had earlier stolen items from the store, had returned.

Moen ran north through the parking lot and towards a motel in the 6700 block of 15th Street East. A deputy unsuccessfully used her stun gun to try to stop Moen, who continued running, according to the report.

Deputies continued the chase along a nearby creek. A deputy was able to tackle him, but he was able to break away.

After Moen emerged from the creek, another deputy was able sneak behind him and ordered him to the ground. When Moen did not comply, the deputy shot him with his stun gun, and Moen fell to the ground and surrendered, the report states.

Moen, who faces charges of battery on a officer, resisting arrest with violence and shoplifting, is being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.
