Two men died in a Thursday afternoon shooting outside a Roseville business, an incident that police were investigating as an apparent murder-suicide.
The shooting took place at about 4:15 p.m. in a parking lot between the Recreational Equipment Inc. store and the CPI Card Group near the intersection of County Road B2 and Prior Avenue, according to Lt. Lorne Rosand, spokesman for the Roseville Police Department.
When police arrived, one man was dead and the other was unconscious, both having suffered apparent gunshot wounds. The injured man was taken by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where he died at about 6 p.m.
Both men were in their late 30s or early 40s. A woman was also at the scene but not injured, and police were interviewing her. Vehicles belonging to each man were parked in the lot and were being hauled away to be processed for evidence. Lose papers found at the scene were also being collected as possible evidence. A handgun was also found in the lot.
The incident appears to be a murder-suicide, but the investigation is in its early stages, Rosand said.
"Right now we have very little information. We're interviewing witnesses to try and determine what happened," Rosand said.
Police said the first man to die and the woman were possibly employed at CPI, which manufactures financial, commercial and identification cards, according to its website.
A man and a woman who were standing outside CPI, at 2430 Prior Ave., were apparently company representatives, though they declined to be identified. When asked whether the shooting involved anyone from CPI, the man said, "We don't know yet; it's still under investigation."
Police said surveillance cameras in the parking lot might have recorded the incident. Additionally, roofers working atop the REI store might have witnessed the shooting.
An REI representative said no one from the store was involved in the incident.
