Miami Robbery Suspect Catches Pants on Fence

A robbery suspect on the run from cops couldn't have asked for a worse day.

He bailed out of his crashed getaway car, caught his pants on a fence, got outrun by a woman he tried to carjack and dropped bills here and there from a wad of cash he carried.

And his hard luck was aired for all to see by a TV traffic chopper tracking his every move.

Police identified him Thursday as Darryl Brown Jr., 22, of Lantana.

The drama started at a Miami Starbucks just before 7 a.m. Wednesday. An armed man walked into the coffee shop at 68th Street and Biscayne Boulevard and demanded money. The clerk stuffed bills into a garbage bag and the robber took off, according to Miami police spokesman Kenia Reyes.

An off-duty Miami firefighter saw the man jump into the passenger side of a white Toyota Camry and called 911.

Soon, the chase was on.

With police in pursuit, the getaway car made it all the way on I-95 to the Golden Glades before crashing near the turnpike toll plaza. The driver, identified Thursday as Josue Jean, 22, of Lantana, was arrested, but accomplice Brown, with money in hand, took off for an adjacent neighborhood.

For about 10 minutes, he jogged through the residential streets, without a cop in sight. But freedom didn't come easy.

After freeing himself from the top of a fence, Brown spotted a woman about to get into her car. He tried to get her keys, but the woman sprinted back into her house.

"Oh no! No, no!" the TV traffic reporter shouted, fearful of a violent encounter below.

Off and jogging once again, he traipsed through the yard of an off-duty police officer, vacant squad car in the driveway.

Minutes later, an on-duty officer appeared, gun drawn. The run was over.
