Beaverton police Saturday identified 18-year-old Jared Steven Leone as the young man accused of grabbing an officer's gun and firing one shot into a wall at Beaverton City Hall Friday night.
Leone is accused of two counts of assaulting a public safety officer, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, second-degree criminal mischief and first-degree theft, according to jail records.
He was treated at a local hospital before he was lodged at the Washington County Jail.
Leone, police said, graduated from Vernonia High School. He most recently has been living in the Seattle area, they said.
The incident began about 5:55 p.m. when police say Leone walked up to the police records division window in City Hall. He told a records clerk that he was overdosing from drugs, and the clerk alerted officers in the building.
Three officers responded and made contact with Leone in the lobby, Sgt. Jim Shumway said.
Leone swung his hand and punched an officer in the head, and a struggle ensued between three officers and Leone.
During the struggle in the lobby, Leone was able to grab one of the officer's firearms and fired it once, striking a wall in City Hall. No one was hit.
One of the officers was treated at a local hospital for a shoulder injury.
Beaverton police have not identified the officers involved in the struggle or which one's gun was taken. A video from City Hall surveillance is expected to be released on Monday.
Leone is scheduled to be arraigned in Washington County Circuit Court on Monday.
