Miss. Fire Chief Killed in Crash With Deputy

Officials said that the Newton County deputy did not suffer any life-threatening injuries in the wreck.

A fire chief in Mississippi was killed Saturday following a collision with a sheriff's deputy's vehicle.

Greefield Fire Chief Mickey Yates was ejected from his pickup truck after the crash involving a Newton County Sheriff's vehicle on Highway 492 around 8:45 p.m., according to WTOK-TV.

The fire chief's vehicle overturned and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Officials said that the deputy did not suffer any life-threatening injuries in the wreck.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
