Albuquerque Police Officer Shot, Suspect Sought

The wounded officer was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery and is in good condition.

KOAT-TV reports that an Albuquerque police officer was shot while responding to an alleged assault at San Mateo and Ross SE last night.

While on the scene, a group of people approached the officers and reported a theft. According to APD Chief Ray Schultz, the officers were investigating when they heard gun shots. Officers took cover, but one officer was shot in the lower back, Shultz said.

The officer was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery and is in good condition. Police haven't released his name yet.

Albuquerque police are still investigating. The shooter is still at large and the weapon unknown.
