A Sedgwick County deputy is listed in fair condition after he was wounded after a pursuit Monday.

The Sedgwick County sheriff's deputy shot and wounded following a traffic pursuit that ended in Butler County on Monday night has been upgraded to fair condition at a Wichita hospital.

A current condition on the suspect, who was shot in the chest after the deputy was wounded, is not available. Both men are being treated at Wesley Medical Center.

Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet and Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter are scheduled to give a briefing providing more details about the shooting incident Tuesday morning in El Dorado.

The incident began at about 5:30 p.m. when the deputy attempted to pull over a white Cadillac in Sedgwick County for traffic violations, authorities have said. The driver sped away, turning onto K-196, and the pursuit extended into Butler County.

The deputy pursued the Cadillac to Northwest 70th near River Valley Road, where the chase ended. At that point, the deputy was shot with a shotgun. A man and woman fled on foot to a nearby field, and sometime later the man was shot in the chest.

The entire incident lasted about 30 minutes, Herzet has said.
