SOUTH FORK, Pa. -- South Fork Borough has accepted simultaneous resignations from both of its police officers: Police Chief Scott Stoltz and part-time Officer Kelly Bolvin.
According to an official statement from recently appointed Mayor Don Hudson, the borough will now accept applications to fill the positions.
Details regarding the concerted resignations -- as to why the two chose to resign at the same time, leaving the small borough without a local police force -- are scarce, even for Hudson.
"We have no idea (why they quit together)," he said. "They did not give a reason."
Hudson did say, however, that he doesn't feel it is a peculiar circumstance or anything out of the ordinary.
The issue was discussed by council members during an executive session at the council's Monday night meeting.
The details of that meeting, however, were not made available to The Tribune-Democrat on Tuesday.
According to Hudson, the officers' last days at the South Fork precinct will be sometime in early March.
Pennsylvania State Police will be obligated to respond to calls originating from the borough while the local precinct is empty, but that is something they already do when no South Fork officer is available to patrol the borough.
Officers acknowledged it would not be a drastic change from business as usual.
Although they are currently sitting on a handful of applicants, Hudson said an ad will soon appear in The Tribune-Democrat with a deadline for application submissions.
