SAN ANDREAS, Calif. -- Calaveras County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested a man on suspicion of commiyting a burglary wearing nothing but a trench coat and socks.
Deputies responded to a report of a burglary at a home in the 200 block of Pope Street on Tuesday to find the homeowner on top of the nearly naked suspect, holding him down in his driveway, according to Sgt. Chris Hewitt.
The homeowner told deputies he had discovered the suspect about 7 p.m., rummaging through his kitchen cabinets. He yelled at a neighbor to call 911 as he chased the suspect outside and tackled him on the driveway.
The suspect was identified as Robert Allen London, 49, of San Andreas. He was found in possession of several items that belonged to the homeowner, according to Hewitt. During an interview with investigators, London admitted to taking items such as small tools, a flashlight, keys, coins and batteries.
When asked about his lack of clothing, London told investigators he had been using the homeowner's sauna and that they could find his clothes on the ground next to it. He admitted using the sauna in the past, he said, because he thought the house was vacant, Hewitt said.
London was arrested and booked at the Calaveras County Jail on suspicion of burglary, indecent exposure inside an occupied dwelling and possession of stolen property. All of the charges are felonies.
