Jan. 12--A man was found dead in his car Friday night after firing shots into the Inkster police station, said Inkster Police Lieutenant Jeff Smith.

According to police, a group of four to five people came into the lobby of the station around 11:50 p.m. Friday to make a police report.

During that time, the unidentified suspect from the complaint drove by and fired two shots at the building. One of the bullets penetrated two glass doors and entered the lobby area of the station. Nobody was hurt at the station.

The suspect fled the area.

The Garden City Police Department was able to locate and follow the vehicle until it came to a rolling stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers discovered the suspect had died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Shaw told the Free Press the altercation started after the group in the lobby made claims over stolen property.

Michigan State Police are handling the investigation surrounding the man's death.
