MOULTRIE, Ga. -- Moultrie police charged three people in an apparent attempt to steal metal from the former city water plant after a police dog drove three people out of woods toward waiting officers.

Christopher Lee Kastelic, 43, and Wilma Jean Williams, 65, both of 1265 Doc Darbyshire Road, and Gary Lamar McMurphy, 53, 2251 Ga. Hwy. 133 S., were each charged with criminal damage to property and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

Officers were dispatched at about 1:36 p.m. to 1226 First Street Northeast, where a witness said he saw a man in a red hat on top of one of the water plants, police sad. The man saw the witness turning into Carlton Construction and he and several others ran into a wooded area.

Williams was behind the wheel of a pickup truck in which police found bolt cutters, a saw and other tools and was taken into custody.

Police also found several pieces of metal pipe that looked like they just had been cut in the area, as well as a power converter, power saw and extension cord.

Later, three suspects were taken into custody by police near North Main Street and a fourth by a Colquitt County Sheriff's Office deputy. Police reports only listed McMurphy and Kastelic as being charged along with Williams.
