MCALLEN, Texas -- An Edinburg man wanted in a 2008 auto wreck that killed one pedestrian and injured two more was arrested in Reynosa, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Alejandro Salinas was arrested Friday afternoon by Tamaulipas State Police in Reynosa, and he was turned over to U.S. authorities at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge, a news release shows.
Salinas, 28, had outstanding warrants from Hidalgo County for the charge of accident involving death and two counts of accident involving injury. The charges stem from an Aug. 6, 2008, wreck in which Salinas reportedly drove a Chevrolet Suburban that struck three pedestrians as they walked south on Mon Mack Road near Farm-To-Market 1925 in Edinburg.
One of the pedestrians died instantly and two others were severely injured, according to the release. The victims were not identified.
At the time of the wreck, the Texas Department of Public Safety learned that Salinas had fled to Mexico, according to the release. On Friday, the U.S. Marshals Service learned that Salinas was hiding in Reynosa and asked its counterparts in Mexico for help. Mexican authorities apprehended Salinas and turned him over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Hidalgo bridge, who then turned him over to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Salinas remains at the Hidalgo County Jail pending further court proceedings.
